LUX--Ringing in the Light (Meredith College Baccalaureate on May 11, 2013

On Saturday, May 11, 2013, I returned to Meredith College (my alma mater) and delivered the Baccalaureate Address for the women of the Class of 2013.  This was a tremendous honor for me.   "Miss Ida" Poteat, chair of the Art Department and sister to Wm. Louis Poteat, who served as President of Wake Forest College, designed both the Meredith and Wake Forest College seal in the early 1900's.   Miss Ida provided the word "Lux" and "Pro Humanitate" for both Meredith and Wake Forest respectively.  Those words continue to guide both of these communities of learning today.  Thanks to these leaders the mission of education comes clear for both Meredith and Wake Forest in the 21st century--to show "light" for "the benefit of humanity."  Thank you, Miss Ida Poteat.  Today Meredith women proudly wear their onyx ring with this Latin word boldly printed in the seal.

My address focused on "LUX--- RINGING IN THE LIGHT".
